QB: Gone: Jalen Hurts In: Chandler Morris Big Story: Tanner Mordecai is staying at least through Spring. But the Rattler Era is looming, and excitement is building. Depth Chart: 1. Spencer Rattler 6-0, 190 RS FR 1. Tanner Mordecai 6-2, 208 RS SO 2. Tanner Schaffer 6-3, 215 SR 3. Chandler Morris – 5-11, 175, Summer FR Outlook: The sheer amount of hype on Spencer Rattler almost defies imagination. The rumors of how good he looked all fall even led some Sooner fans to call for the benching of Hurts and elevation of Spencer from the scout team to 1st team QB. But really, all he has done since enrolling in August is look every bit like the number 1 QB ranking he received out of High School. Now, LR will tell us that there will be a serious battle between Rattler and Mordecai throughout spring. And with most of spring ball locked down, we won’t have any hard evidence but the very limited spring game to judge. But fully expect all the rumors and the hype to be on the Rattler Train. Tanner Mordecai was the backup last fall, but with all the close contests post WVU we barely saw him play at all. Mordecai was highly rated out of HS and certainly has the passing game skills to be successful at OU. He’s not as mobile as Rattler and probably does not have the same elite arm, but he can be a very good QB for OU. Rattler or Mordecai their primary job will be to re-establish the OU passing game as a stretch the field in all aspects attacking offense taking advantage of a host of weapons. If Rattler were to have an awesome spring practice/spring game it would go a long way to helping Sooner fans get over their massive depression/hangover caused by the Peach Bowl.
