I'd have real concerns about this hire. I'm not a huge fan of hiring coaches on the downward trajectory. (Mike???) Miami was happy to see him go. All kinds of stories about how he is sick of recruiting and did not do a good job recruiting. The one year at Bama is also a concern even factoring the absurd turnover Saban has on his coaching staff. The real red flag is the year off working for no one that I can find (not even an analyst gig), and then he gets a job at a Group of 5 team (Toledo is a very good Group of 5 team) which is also his alma mater Hiring Coach Kool in 2013 sure. Coach Kul in 2019 seems to be a hiring him way too late. He's not been recruiting Texas for over 5 years. Here are his Miami classes. 2016 thru 2018 9 kids signed. All from Florida. So he's not really doing any special regional recruiting. A dead coach at Miami can sign DL from Florida. 7 three stars including 3 players ranked 5.5 2 four stars. I thought everyone on here wanted better recruiting than Thibs, not worse. I thought everyone wanted elite DL, not projects. He has zero connections in NC where we are trying to tap into the elite DL pool or the Md/DC/North Virginia area. He won't even bring in Florida connections. Finally, even in is successful run at Mizzou, he was signing 3 stars kids and making them better. The only elite kid was Sheldon Richardson who signed due to distance/grades reasons. And their SEC run was during a bad period of Florida, Tenn, and UGA football.
